Geriatric Program
Depression can strike at any age, but life transitions, losses and medical problems can complicate the aging process. It is estimated that approximately 30% of those over 65 will experience major depresssion sometime with in the next 3 years. The Geriatric Program is designed to address these and other mental health issues through individual, group and family sessions, medication management, and after care planning.
Treatment is provided by an interdisciplinary team including:
- Board certified psychiatrist
- Psychiatric Nurses
- Social Workers
- Activities Therapist
- Mental Health Counselors
- Other Mental Health Professionals
Patients are offered a wide variety of groups to provide education and strengthen coping skills. These groups include:
Community Meeting
This morning group is designed to set short term goals for the day.
Family Education & Family Support
A workshop and support group designed to provide patients, families and/or support systems with information ranging from coping skills to symptom management.
Psychotherapy
A daily process group offering encouragement, praise, and with an emphasis on individuals strengths and talents.
Life Skills
This educational group focuses on strengthening coping skills such as anger management, stress management, relaxation training.
Cognitive Stimulation
A group designed to focus on using hands-on activities to exercise the mind.
Expressive Therapy
A group that utilized art, music or leisure oriented tasks to express their feelings.
Wellness Group
This group will benefit the patient by providing education about their illness and medication(s) to maintain their progress.
Fitness
This group allows patients to participate in a structured physical activity and provides an outlet for stress and anxiety.
Wrap Up Group
This is the evening follow up group provides the patients with an opportunity to review their goals and the events of the day.
